About Us

Children in humanitarian settings are at risk of injury and disability, physical and sexual violence, psychosocial distress, and mental health issues. They may be separated from their families, recruited into armed forces, economically exploited, or come into contact with the justice system.

Vision: A world in which children in emergencies are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence.

Mission: The Child Protection Area of Responsibility supports global, regional and local actors to ensure that humanitarian efforts to protect children in Humanitarian Coordinator and Early Warning settings are timely, well-coordinated, and achieving maximum coverage, quality and impact.

What We Do

Coordination for child protection in emergencies

Child Protection is an Area of Responsibility  (AoR) within the Global Protection Cluster.  With our CP AoR strategy, we aim to ensure the efforts of national and international humanitarian actors to protect children are well coordinated, achieving maximum quality and impact. Our initiatives aim to further develop or improve operational standards and the capacity of the child protection in emergencies workforce.

Governance

CP AoR Strategic Advisory Group

The CP AoR Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) is our governance and oversight body and includes over 20 international and national organisations along with UN agencies. The Strategic Advisory Group contributes to the overall strategic work of the CP AoR on behalf of the broader partnership.

Membership

Promoting collaboration in child protection

Members of the CP AoR are humanitarian organisations interested in improving coordinated responses for child protection in cluster and early warning contexts. This also includes national and local entities that are members of field-based child protection coordination groups. The CP AoR has evolved in an inclusive spirit since its inception in 2007.

Partnerships

The principles of partnership are at the core of our work. The CP AoR brings together national and international NGOs, United Nations agencies and other organisations supporting child protection in emergencies to share information, set priorities and advocate enhanced coordination.
