You are invited to a webinar entitled "The Reality of Shifting Power to Local Actors: Case studies on child protection initiatives in Nigeria, Kenya, & Malawi," which will be held on Tuesday, 1st February 2022, at 9:00 ET/14:00 GMT.
To better understand the experiences of local actors who have engaged with the international humanitarian response, the Care and Protection of Children (CPC) Learning Network and the Global Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR) documented initiatives aiming to increase engagement of national organisations in child protection coordination mechanisms across Nigeria, Kenya, and Malawi. There were many overlapping themes across the case studies, such as lack of funding for local organizations, operational capacity building needs/challenges, and more. During the webinar, we plan to share overarching findings from the three case studies and have a candid discussion around approaches to transferring power into local hands, challenges, promising practices, and lessons learned. Click on the following links to read the related case studies:
Case Study #1: Nigerian National Non-Governmental Organisation Consortium: Case Study Documenting the Successes and Challenges of Implementing a Consortium Model in North-East Nigeria
Case Study #2: Implementing a National Action Plan for Child Protection in Emergencies in Kenya: Case study documenting the successes and challenges of strengthening coordination and localisation
Case Study #3: Implementing an Action Plan for Child Protection in Emergencies in Malawi: Case study documenting the successes and challenges of strengthening coordination and localisation
We are excited to announce a live, interactive webinar on localisation, what has worked, what have been the challenges, and how to move forward. To guide us through this conversation, we will engage five incredible speakers in a semi-structured discussion to hear experiences from their respective country contexts:
Abba Yusuf, Executive Director, Grow Strong Foundation, Nigeria
Edem Edem, National Coordinator/Founder, Green Concern for Development, Nigeria
Hellen Mafumbo, Senior Child Protection Officer, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Kenya
Martin Nkuna, Child Protection Officer, UNICEF, Malawi
Mirriam Kaluwa, Protection Cluster Coordinator, UNICEF, Malawi
Participants will have the opportunity to ask our panelists questions during the discussion.
